An example of this is the Spanish Armada, which in 1588 attempted to invade England. Early mankind used hollowed out tree trunks to make rafts and used animal skins to make sails. Nowadays boats and ships are equipped with modern technology enabling them to travel fast and efficiently over long distances, and are still used for many purposes such as transport, trade and of course recreation. Despite the advent of aviation, sea and water travel still plays an important role in travel and transportation.
