What makes a jigsaw puzzle hard

It is not just the piece count. A puzzle turns genuinely difficult when it has large areas of a single color, like a plain blue sky, a calm sea or an even lawn, because the visual cues that guide you in other images simply are not there. Difficulty also climbs with repeating patterns, such as brick, leaves or roof tiles, and of course with the Rotation option, where every piece can appear in four different positions. Square pieces or classic shapes

With the classic shape, every piece has a unique outline that helps you tell whether it fits somewhere.
