Free FreeCell

How to play

1. Every card is visible. You always move the top card of a column.
2. In the columns, cards are stacked in descending order, alternating colors: a red 9 on a black 10.
3. Each of the four free cells holds exactly one card, which you can pick back up at any time.
4. On the foundations, suits build up in ascending order, from ace to king.
5. You win once all 52 cards are on the foundations.

Tips and tricks

• Keep the free cells empty for as long as possible. They're your main tool.
• Clear the columns first where aces and 2s are buried deep at the bottom.
• An empty column is worth more than a free cell, since a whole sequence can move there at once.
• Think a few moves ahead: almost every game is winnable, and impatience is the main cause of losing.

About FreeCell

FreeCell differs from solitaire and spider in one key way: there is no hidden stockpile. Every card is visible from the start, dealt across eight columns. Four free cells sit in the top left, where you can park one card at a time, plus four foundations for the suits.

Since nothing is hidden, strategy alone decides the outcome. Of the millions of possible deals, almost all are winnable. This version of FreeCell is dressed up in a festive winter theme, but the rules are the classic ones. No time limit, no sign-up.
