Free Mahjong

How to play

1. Tap two matching tiles to remove them. Both must be free.
2. A tile is free if nothing sits to its left or right and no tile covers it.
3. Flower and season tiles each form their own group: any flower tile matches any other flower tile.
4. You win once all 144 tiles have been removed.
5. If no move is left, the shuffle button or a new game gets you out of it.

Tips and tricks

• Clear the tall stacks and long rows first, or they'll block everything at the end.
• If you see three matching free tiles, take the two that free up other tiles.
• If all four tiles of one kind are free, remove them right away, since it's always safe.
• Use the hint feature sparingly: it shows a pair, but not necessarily the best one.

About Mahjong

Mahjong Solitaire, often just called mahjong, is played with the 144 tiles from the Chinese mahjong game, but as a solo puzzle: tiles are stacked in several layers, and you remove two matching free tiles at a time. A tile is free when it has no neighbor on the left or right and nothing is on top of it.

The game calls for an overview and a bit of strategy, since not every pair is equal. At first, you only see the top layers; every move frees up new tiles. No time limit, no sign-up.
