Playing
The pieces are too small. What can I do?
Three things help: choose fewer pieces (24, 48, or 60), set the layout to "Pieces spread out" (pieces become about twice as large), and click Full Screen. You can also zoom in: mouse wheel, + and - keys, or two fingers on a touchscreen.
Can I play like the old game?
Yes: choose 60 pieces and "Pieces spread out." The pieces are then spread across the whole screen. This setting is remembered for every puzzle after that. See the Play Like Before page.
How do I build the edge first?
Click Edges (key E). All interior pieces disappear temporarily. Click again to bring them back.
I got lost after zooming.
Click Fit (key 0). All the pieces come back on screen.
Why won't two pieces join even though they seem to match?
They need to be placed exactly against each other and, if Rotation is on, both need to be right side up. Drop the piece right next to its neighbor: it snaps into place on its own once it's positioned correctly. If you're unsure, turn on Preview.
Can I rotate pieces?
Only if you turn on "Rotation" on the start screen. To rotate a piece: double-click, double-tap, or right-click. Without this option, all pieces stay upright.
How do I change the background color?
Click More and choose a color under Background. Gray is the default; the beige from the old game is there too.
Saving and progress
Is my puzzle saved if I close the page?
Yes, automatically, after every move. Open the same puzzle page later and click "Resume saved puzzle." Every piece count has its own saved game.
My progress is gone.
Progress is saved in the browser on the device you played on. If you play on a different device or a different browser, it won't be there. Clearing cookies and site data, or playing in a private or incognito window, also erases progress.
Do I need to create an account?
No. There is no account, no password, and no sign-up. Everything is saved in your own browser.
Does the timer keep running while I'm away?
No. Time only runs while the page is open and visible.
Tablet and phone
Does it work on iPad?
Yes, and very well. One finger moves pieces, two fingers zoom. Full screen works a little differently on iPad than on a computer: the game fills the Safari window. For the best result, add the site to your home screen (button at the bottom of every puzzle page).
How do I add the site to my home screen?
At the bottom of every puzzle page is an "Add to Home Screen" button. On Android, an install prompt appears. On iPhone and iPad, tap the Safari share button (the square with an arrow) and choose "Add to Home Screen."
The pieces are too small on my phone.
Hold the phone sideways, choose 24 or 48 pieces, and use Full Screen. Zooming with two fingers also works.
Puzzles and photos
When do new puzzles appear?
Every morning around eight, three new puzzles appear on the Daily Puzzle page. All previous puzzles remain available.
Can I make a puzzle from my own photo?
Yes, with the puzzle maker (the "Make a Puzzle From Your Photo" menu). The photo stays on your device and is never uploaded anywhere.
Can I send a puzzle to someone?
Yes. Once a puzzle is finished, a Share button appears. You can also just copy the puzzle page's address.
Where do the photos come from?
From photographers who make their work freely available (including via Pixabay) and from licensed stock photos. The source is listed under every puzzle.
Problems
The game won't load or stays blank.
Refresh the page (F5). If that doesn't help, try a different browser (Chrome, Edge, Firefox, or Safari all work) and check that your browser isn't too old. If the problem continues, write to us with the name of your device and browser.
I don't see the new buttons.
Your browser is still showing an older version. Refresh the page once; on a computer, use Ctrl+F5.
Ads are getting in my way.
Ads never cover the puzzle table. The bar at the bottom can be closed with the small X. They fund the site, so the puzzles can stay free.
